FAQs
Visiting
When are you open?
We're open Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We also open on Bank Holiday Mondays. See our Hours & Location page for kitchen and bar times.
Do I need to book, or can I just walk in?
Walk-ins are always welcome, but we'd recommend booking in advance where you can, especially at weekends and for Sunday lunch.
Is food served all day?
Food is served at lunch and dinner. On Saturdays between 3.30pm and 5pm we serve nibbles and a smaller selection of pub dishes. We don't take bookings during this time.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes. Dogs are welcome in the bar, the Pub Dining Room and the garden. The only room they can't come into is the Restaurant. The same menu is served everywhere, so you won't miss out by sitting with your dog. Let us know when you book so we can seat you in the right room.
Are children welcome?
Very much so, at any time of day. We have highchairs, a children's menu and a small playground in the garden. We just ask that children are supervised at all times.
Do you have accessible access?
Yes. There's step-free access through the front of the pub to the accessible toilet, and step-free access through to the garden. We're a 350-year-old listed building, so if you have specific requirements, call ahead and we'll talk you through it.
Is there parking?
There's a car park behind the pub, and on-street parking in the village if it's full.
Can we eat in the garden?
Yes, the full menu is available outside. Heating and shade are limited, so please dress for the weather. We don't take advance bookings for garden tables, but if you add a note to your booking we'll do our best to seat you outside if the weather's good.
Food & Drink
Can you cater for allergies?
Yes, we can cater for all allergens. Just tell us when you book and again when you order. Our kitchen handles nuts, flour and other allergens, so we can't guarantee that any dish is completely free of traces.
Can you cater for gluten free?
A large part of the menu can be adapted to leave out gluten-containing ingredients, and the kitchen is happy to do it. We use a shared fryer, so anything fried, including chips, is cooked in the same oil as products containing gluten. If you have coeliac disease, please speak to us and we'll steer you to what's safe.
Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?
There are vegetarian dishes on the menu, and some can be adapted to be vegan. If you're vegan, please tell us when you book so the kitchen has time to prepare something properly.
Can I bring my own wine?
If you're celebrating something, yes. Corkage is £20 per bottle, with a maximum of one bottle per four people. Corkage is only available to guests who are dining with us.
Do you allow birthday cakes?
Yes. Cakeage is £4 per person, and we'll portion the cake and serve it with cream or ice cream. If your party is also ordering desserts, there's no cakeage charge. The cake is then served on its own, without cream or ice cream.
Where can I buy Foxgrove Gin?
Only at the pub. It's served over the bar and sold to take home: £20 for 35cl, £40 for 70cl.
Booking & Paying
How do I book a table?
There are three ways. Book online for parties of up to nine. Call us on 01763 290716, where Millie, our AI assistant, can take your booking at any hour. Or send us an enquiry if your party is ten or more.
Who is Millie?
Millie is our AI phone assistant. She answers our main number and can take bookings outside our opening hours. If you'd rather speak to one of the team, just say so and she'll put you through.
What's your cancellation policy?
We're usually flexible and just ask that you let us know as early as you can. Cancellations within two hours of the reservation, and no-shows, are charged at £15 per person. We take card details for parties of six or more.
Do you add a service charge?
A discretionary 10% service charge is added to all tables where table service has been provided. We're happy to remove it on request.
How can I pay?
We accept cash and all major cards, including American Express.
